AZRAEL ARIK MYTAKA. NINETEEN. GREASER/MECHANIC. ASH STYMEST.
personality
First and foremost, Azrael is sadistic. He takes great pleasure in seeing people hurt or miserable and the more they hurt the more pleasure he gets. There are very few limits that Azrael has to the pain and misery he will inflict on people. Azrael is a heartless and merciless person. He has next to no care for other people’s feelings and the only reason he even takes notice of them is so save his own ass. He doesn’t care who he is hurting, so long as someone is in physical or emotional pain, preferably both. It is definitely safe to say that Azrael is cruel. This also makes him quite dangerous. There is no telling what he will do to get his way because of his lack of limits. Stepping over the line with Azrael is like walking in to enemy grounds in a war with a neon sign above your head saying “shoot me”. Azrael will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and is quite manipulative when it comes down to it. He will constantly befriend people just to use something that they have to offer that he may not have for himself. Why do himself what others can do so much better? Most people are just tools or pawns for Azrael rather than companions. Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t pay you any mind what so ever after he’s done using you, because that is more likely to happen than him being friends with you. There are no friends with Azrael, just people to use.
Azrael’s ego could be its own country with how big it is. Azrael thinks very highly of himself, and nothing anyone says to him is likely to change that. As far as Axrael is concerned, he’s the greatest damn thing since sliced bread. Yes, it’s safe to say that Azrael is in love with himself, and he is most certainly self-centered. Azrael’s level of pride passed arrogant a long time ago, and there is no going back now. As far as this man is concerned, he is the only person on this planet who matters. While his superiority complex is a force to be reckoned with, Azrael is also very envious of others. No matter how amazing he believes he is, he will always find something that he wants from another person’s life. Be it something deep like general acceptance, or something silly like a watch, Azrael is easily envious of the people around him. He also isn’t afraid to pursue whatever it is that he covets. (As far as physical thing s are concerned, he won’t go after the mental wants.) Azrael isn’t below stealing when it’s something he wants, but lord have mercy on anyone who tries to steal from him.
Azrael’s temper is extremely short and he tends to anger at the smallest things. He can get very violent when he’s angry and doesn’t hold himself responsible for any damage he might do if you piss him off. He doesn’t often remember what happens with his temper goes off badly enough, and it’s almost like he loses control. Azrael’s short fuse is one of his worst downfalls, since the smallest thing can set it off. He gets very violent and really, sedation is the only decent solution. Azrael is impatient and easily irritated, constantly threatening the lives of others and being generally aggressive. He has no regard for others or right from wrong and goes about doing whatever the hell he wants to.
history
For most families the first of a child would be a happy event, but Iro an Alana were not like most families. They were not your usual couple filled with love and sunshine and happiness, in fact they scoffed at couples like that. Iro and Alana’s relationship was a very dysfunctional one. They argued more than they got along and cheated on one another out of spite. They were abusive to each other and almost never had a sentimental moment together, but they never once thought about leaving each other. Deep down they cared for one another, but they didn’t dare show it on any sort of conventional way. With Iro working as a rookie police officer and Alana a freelance author, money was often tight for them. Their wedding had to be small because of lack of finance, something Alana never let go. She had always dreamed of something spectacular and princess like, and she never got a wedding close to that. A borrowed dress and a rented out bar was her fairy tale wedding. Iro and Alana were married for three years before she became pregnant with their first son, not something she had ever planned on. She didn’t want children and neither did Iro, but they weren’t up for an abortion.
Iro and Alana had every intention to give the baby up for adoption and even had a wonderful set of parents willing to take care of the baby, but a week before her due date Alana changed her mind. Iro had a lot of running around and buying to do, but somehow he managed it within fits of rage and work. Labour was hard on Alana and the birth of their son was even harder on her. He came into the world fighting, foreshadowing the feisty young man he was destined to grow in to. With Alana and baby Azrael now at home all Iro could really do to help was take extra shifts to support his family, since he had zero experience in babies. Alana took time off of writing to take care of Azrael for a year, but once he was old enough for daycare that was where he stayed.
During the first few years of Azrael’s life he never developed a bond with his parents. He didn’t get held much and his father paid him almost no mind at all. The attention that all babies need and crave was not given to Azrael. The first time anyone really paid him much mind was when he was thrown into daycare to be out of his parents’ way. He was held and given attention, people helped him put the colourful blocks in their right holes and they even helped him learn to talk. More often than not they had to call his house to have him picked up, with Iro working and Alana often getting caught up in her novels. Azrael was two years old when another addition to their family was added, his little brother coming home with less arguing involved than when Azrael was born. Another big difference between Azrael’s arrival into the world and Gabriel’s was that Gabriel was wanted this time around. They had the money to support two children and he was a very happy and affectionate baby; there wasn’t much to dislike about him. Azrael hated him instantly.
On several occasions through the next few years Azrael attempted to get rid of his baby brother. At three years old Azrael attempted to pawn his brother off on a random stranger at the park, only to be caught by his mother and brought home. His punishment for trying to pawn off his brother was being thrown up the stairs and into the wall, sent to his room without supper. This was the start of the abuse he was to face, though most of it was brought on by his own defiant behaviour. Azrael’s attempts at getting rid of his brother were not tolerated by his parents, and Iro and Alana weren’t afraid to hit him to get him to stop. When he tried to leave Gabriel in a store he was hit for it, and he was hit when he pushed the crib over and Gabriel had to get stitches in the back of his head. Azrael was not a very friendly child, especially to his little brother. It seemed that no matter what Iro and Alana did or what they said to Azrael, he was still bent on having Gabriel out of his life. Azrael’s defiance and aggressive behaviour only made the favouritism for Gabriel even worse. All Azrael wanted was his parents to give him attention, and the only attention he could ever get was negative. He took what he could get and continued to be defiant and violent while Gabriel got anything he asked for.
Azrael’s first day of school was not very eventful. He was so used to going to daycare that kindergarten wasn’t very different for him. It just meant more time to be away from his family, which he was more than okay with. Contrary to what his parents’ thoughts, Azrael actually did well in school. While he was defiant and unruly at home he actually liked being at school. He behaved with his teachers and peers, and made his first friends with ease. By this point Iro was no longer a rookie cop and making considerably good money at his job and Alana had published a few novels that had done pretty well. Gabriel was in daycare as Azrael had been and Iro and Alana were shocked when his teachers told them Azrael was a very sweet young man. The second he got home that changed and he was right back to attempting to get rid of his brother. The fights that Gabriel and Azrael got into were not like your regular brotherly fights and on several occasions the boys had to be taken to the hospital for stitches or to make sure nothing was broken.
It remained like this for most of Azrael’s time in primary school. As he grew older his hatred for his family grew stronger. He never listened to what his parents told him and fought with Gabriel as if it was his life’s work to do so. At school he was charming and a teacher favourite, always doing his work and helping out when he could. He told no one that his parents hit him, and didn’t even realize it was a bad thing until he was ten years old. He made friends but never invited them over but was always at their house. Often their parents asked how his home life was, but Azrael simply said it was alright, he just didn’t want people to see how messy the house was. They never pressed much after he gave his answers, always telling him that they were available to talk to if he needed them. He was a sweet kid when around anyone but his family, really sweet unless provoked. Every now and then someone would say the wrong thing, causing Azrael’s anger to get out of control. He would hit the other kid until someone pulled him off kicking and screaming, and each one of these fights caused Azrael to get some pretty bruises when he got home.
When he was twelve everything changed. Having had a particularly bad day at school, Azrael wanted nothing more than to be reassured by his mother that things would be okay. Instead he was shoved into the back seat with Gabriel in the front, the car ride turning into what amazing things his little brother had done today. Feeling rather aggressive, Azrael decided that it was time to do something about his superstar sibling. Unbuckling his seatbelt, Azrael covered his mother’s eyes with one hand and used the other to fight for the steering wheel. It was an awkward position with his limbs spidered around his mother’s seat so he could reach, not to mention that she was obviously fighting back while Gabriel sat there stunned. The car swerved in and out of oncoming traffic, causing quite a scene to the drivers and pedestrians nearby. No one knew what to expect from the out of control vehicle, Azrael unable to get what he wanted out of his attempt. The car drove through the metal guard rails on the side of the road and rolled into the ditch and onto its side. Now, it would be nice to say that no one was harmed, but that isn’t the case. Alana and Gabriel suffered for a good few hours before they were able to pull her out of the rubble. She died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital and Gabriel died as they tried to save him. Azrael, on the other hand, had “minor injuries” as the doctors said. Most of the left side of his body was cut up. He had to shave his head to get staples in it and had most of the left side of his face bandaged up for quite a while. Most of the scars were small and have faded away by now, but the accident altered Azrael’s appearance quite a bit. His shoulder, the upper left half of his chest and a good portion of the left side of his face were left permanently scarred.
Azrael was in the hospital for almost a month before he was finally able to go home, completely missing his mother and brother’s funeral. (Not like he really cared though.) It was deemed an “unfortunate accident”, Azrael’s memory far too hazy to recall what he had done right away. After all, he had taken quite a hard hit to his head, though the memories did return to him a few months later. If you thought his household was tense before, it was much worse now. Considering the fact that the wheels of the car somehow disappeared, Azrael was nearly interrogated about the car accident. Azrael didn’t return to school for the rest of that year, and when he did choose to go back (having to take that grade over again) his scars did not go unnoticed. He lost the friends he had made and was stared at constantly, which completely wiped out any positive feelings Azrael had for school. He was constantly getting into fights over his scars and his dichromatic eye, going from charming and sweet to ignorant and defiant. Azrael stopped acting nice at school and started being the same as he was at home when teachers were around. He nearly failed that year, and nearly failed until he reached grade eight.
Still just a kid, he started skipping classes and lying constantly. He started hanging out with a group of kids a few years older than him, experimenting with drugs at a very young age. He lost his virginity and also started experimenting with his sexuality, getting tattoos despite his age. He was having the time of his life, and this continued for two years. Azrael started fighting back with his father now. Every time the abuse came Azrael would just laugh and egg him on, acting as if he enjoyed the severe beatings he got on a regular basis. It certainly threw Iro off, but not enough to stop abusing his son. It wasn’t until Azrael was fifteen, almost sixteen, when he finally admitted to being the cause of Alana and Gabe’s death, though it was something that Iro always blamed on Azrael anyways. High on cocaine, bought with money he stole from his father on a regular basis, Azrael physically fought back this time rather than taunting his father. Thinking of himself as invincible, he punched his father enough times to knock him out, some neighbours hearing the fight going on and calling the police. Azrael was arrested the sent to a mental hospital for conduct disorder, where he admitted to the being the cause of the car accident and doing cruel things to his “friends” because it amused him. Azrael was there for three years before being released or being “cured” and is back in the real world choosing Tulsa as his home.
