caution,
is what should be written on the "welcome to tulsa sign" as you cross into the county. caution for many different reasons as the south is not the most friendly place and tulsa has grown to be one of the worst. even after some forty years, the feud is still going between east and west or better known as the poor and the rich.
the poor reside in the east, in the run down houses with the station wagon because that's all that can be afforded. the neighborhood circles into a cul-de-sac surrounding each the houses in a common area. even if the houses are close, it does not mean that the people are. feuds amongst the east side's different sides seem to occur just as often as the confrontation between the east and the west side do. surrounded by an open park, punches are often thrown late at night and the sound of switchblades being flicked open is a common occurrence. during the day, it's a more tame area where you can walk without much fear but at night, that caution sign should be lit up just for this side.
the west side is in a row, there is no connecting street as most of the houses seem to resemble the previous one before than and the one before that. a sense of uniformity seems to be the scene as each house does not seem to have a unique thing about it. the only difference would be the expensive cars of both the parents and the kids that drive them that sit on the street or in the driveway. a safer part of town, the rich kids feel safe on this side of town and many who fear the east side would not dare to cross that threshold.
the tracks are the only thing that separate the sides of town and of course there is the neutral area. this does not mean a safe area but a part of the town that the two sides are forced to share. naturally, east and west hang out in different spots but there are places where they are forced to mingle and socialize with and that is where tensions flare. a spark has been lit, rumor is a surprise attack is planned. by which side? that's unknown.
