JACKSON TREY WINSTON. EIGHTEEN. GREASER/THIEF. SAM WAY.
personality
"His eyes were blue, blazing ice, cold with a hatred of teh whole world...He was tougher than the rest of us - tougher, colder, meaner."
this is half true as jackson’s eyes are actually a light hazel, nearly a golden brown color. but the rest of the quote does happen to apply to jackson. his eyes are cold, they seemed to stare past people as if they are insignificant to him. he has this pretentious air about him without actually having the money or the status to be. it’s not that he thinks he’s better than everyone else, he knows his place at the bottom of the food chain but that does not mean that he will not fight his way to the top. he looks through people because they are exactly that, invisible, little specks of dirt on a sweater. it’s not hard to figure out that jackson is cold because he will spit out harsh words without a second thought. his cold eyes are the window to his soul and usually, that window is closed to people to keep them at a distance. out of the six of them, jackson is the one that people fear but grow to respect. jackson would not allow anything less than respect from people. you may not be important to him but you were warned if you try and step on him.
"the fight for self-preservation had hardened him beyond caring."
this one is true and shows quite..well. he has had to fight for everything in his life that meant something to him and jackson hated to lose. his father was a harsh man, one that did not give a shit what happened to his son but also beat the shit out of him for everything that went wrong. jackson learned to be tougher, he fought back and left the house at sixteen. he went to the streets, to the gangs and fought for his survival there until he came across the group that forced him out of that life. at that point, it was too late and out of all the struggle and all the turmoil that jackson had to face, he had turned ice cold and so had his soul.
"He had quite a reputation. They have a file on him down at the police station. He had been arrested, he got drunk, he rode in rodeos, lied, cheated, stole, rolled drunks, jumped small kids - he did everything. I didn't like him, but he was smart and you had to respect him."
another quote that just happened to be true for jackson as well. petty crimes are his calling. he had been part of a gang back in Detroit and they did regular break and enters and muggings and after being locked in the slammer for a night, jackson claimed to have “changed his ways” but that criminal gene still rests in his dna. it’s reckless but jackson is said to be just that. there is no denying that jackson is a drinker and a smoker, constantly having a cancer stick hanging out of his mouth with a superior attitude on his face, it’s a wonder that he not challenged more often. he likes to think himself at the top of the group, the only one having the true guts to come up with the crimes and pay the price for them with a smirk on his face. some say he is deranged but jackson will say that he is just daring. he wants to live his life in his own way and he does not like being told what to do. however, he will not hesitate to bark orders to the group or to a stranger. with a colorful vocabulary and the speech of a twelve year old, jackson seems to come off as immature. in reality, he would sacrifice himself for anyone in the group, especially the youngest.
"Oh, my, my -- you've got me scared to death! You ought to see my record sometime, baby. Guess what I've been in for?"
well there is no denying that jackson has quite the ego. he actually is quite the egotist and it does not help that he drinks and smokes with guys and girls that are older than him, just adding to the ego boost when an older girl comes onto him. sarcasm does seem to run throughout the group and jackson is not sure if he got it from his parents or from the group but it’s there. he uses it often as a defense mechanism to either wane down the numbers of those in his life or he genuinely doesn’t give a shit and will throw out anything that sounds good. this quote was taken while he was talking to a girl one night who happened to jokingly threaten him. his threat, his gloating is not a joke as jackson does have a record that has followed him to the sunshine state of california. baby, sweetheart, honey, chick, it’s all a bit of a disrespectful way of addressing woman but it’s the way that jackson does. he not care to address the woman by their name as that creates an attachment, really, he would rather keep the petnames going as long as he can and move onto the next girl when he gets bored.
“hey how can I find out if this is your natural red hair?"
manners has obviously evaded the young boy when it comes to woman. he never had a positive male influence around in his life and when he did get one, they were twenty three year old gang members that taught him to take what he wanted. now, jackson would never go so far as to force himself fully on a woman but with his “charm” and good looks, it does not usually take a woman that long to fall into his arms. he jokes about being solid for two weeks if a girl initiates the meeting and he might be kidding but jackson was always in popular demand in detroit and he predicts that his schedule will be just as full with california girls.
"I'm never nice. Want a coke?"
it’s rather true. people claim that he does have a nice bone in his body, somewhere deep down but in reality, he doesn’t. he has no compassion, no caring for those that are not the group and he really won’t care to physically or emotionally hurt someone. the other thing that is not really relating to his personality but a fun little quirk is that as jackson does not do drugs, he is addicted to something. he’s addicted to the soda, coke. ironic, no? this quote also shows that even under rejection or just plain situations, jackson can still be obnoxious and persistent for no reason. it’s a way of keeping his guard up and keep that tough guy image that he so desperately wants to keep.
“Get like me and you don't get hurt. Look out for yourself and nothin' can touch you. Hear me, Pony. Wise up!"
there are moments that things can get out of control for the young male. emotional times that are usually set between him and the other person and put into private boundaries. he is not one to share his emotion and would rather, or rather does, walk away before spilling out his heart and soul to another. he wants people in the group to be like him, he wants everyone to see his ways because he feels it’s the best way to keep people at bay. being mean, hurtful and crude to them keeps them at that distance where jackson does not have to care if something happens to them. when he gets into this emotional state, he reflects on himself and projects his own anger outward in harsh tones and sometimes even flying fists. this quote was taken when jackson was upset about something that occurred in the group, a weakness for the cold rebel, and he wanted bright eyes to open his actual eyes and see that caring does nothing but hurt.
"Man, I thought New York was the only place to end up in a murder rap, Jesus Christ!"
okay so jackson has not been to new york city, he has lived in the old new york city; detroit. this actually shows that even under his tough guy image that he keeps, jackson can still be caught off guard and can even be scared or have his feathers ruffled. naturally, he keeps his tough guy image up a little with the sarcastic comment and such but in the long run, jackson is only human and he does get scared.
"Don't you know a rumble ain't a rumble without me?"
ah, the ever loving ego showing up. this is where you see what jackson is really all about. a rumble is a fight between one or more gangs and jackson used to get into a lot of them back in detroit with his current group and past gangs. he never stayed in one group for too long and was often fighting people that he had grown to respect but as a fighter, jackson is strong. he fights tooth and nail to win and will even play dirty from time to time like bringing a gun when it’s blades only. rumbles end quickly that way and end in his favor.
history
born on the wrong side of detroit, michigan, jackson never really had the proper family that most children have these days. his father was a crude man, one that really only cared about the person that he would cheat with and the income that the family was bringing in. at the age of ten, jackson was arrested for his first crime; pick-pocketing. he was a young, brunette haired boy with rosy cheeks but not an innocent look to him. at that point, jackson was already receiving the beatings of his father in full force and it continued for several more years. he was made to be cold, fashioned to fight for what he wanted but his father sure never expected the retaliation of a thirteen year old jackson. knife in hand and ready to stab the old man in the heart, his mother’s plea was the only thing that stopped him from plunging the steel through skin. as much as he hated his father, he had a soft spot for his mother that quickly vanished days later when jackson was forced out of the house. the fact that his mother allowed his father to beat him had never dawned on jackson until he was out on the streets with nothing but time to think. this is where the real history begins of jackson trey winston. he was just cooling down with his parents but the ice started to form when he found a new group to call family.
they called themselves the vipers. they were named after the snake for good reason. dangerous and ready to strike at any moment, jackson started at the bottom with his initiation of a break and enter and worked his way up. it really did not take the boy a long time to gain the trust of the leaders and to bond with them. they taught him about life, showed him the hardships and allowed him to sleep in their homes since he was not welcomed back at his own, not that jackson would have gone. he wanted to retaliate against his father and do the same thing that was done onto him and even though jackson was full of vengeance, it was his mother that prevented him from doing so. the gang was nothing important to him and after getting up all the information that he think he could take, he moved onto to another and another. rumbling against one another and fighting people that he had once respected. this is the second time that he got arrested; someone had tipped off the police about the fight and being fourteen, he was legally not allowed to be emancipated from his family and the fact that he was in a gang just added to the charges. his father had to bail him out and he received the beating of a lifetime but that only made jackson want to rebel further. pushing his father to the limit, and his father had pushed him. they ended up in a real physical fiht, one that not even his mother’s pleas could break apart and at the age of fifteen, jackson was officially removed from the house that he loathed.
he went back to the gangs, falling back into that crowd once more until one day he came across a young little boy. ___ was his name and a few of his gang buddies wanted to beat the hell out of the kid and take the six bucks that were mostly likely in his ripped jeans. jackson would not allow it to happen and instead, took the kid under his wing. this was the start of the outsiders. it’s his current group now made up of mixed kids of different personalities. jackson is the second oldest and the coldest. he tells the gang as it is, if he is not in the slammer at least. if he is behind bars, then ____, the old brother of the second oldest is the one that is supposed to be in charge. this group of friends was what saved jackson in the end and he is forever in their debt, though he would never admit that out loud. he began to veer away from the gang world and started to concentrate on toughening up the five other members of the group, minus the dad cause well, he was already tough enough. passive but tough. he acted almost as a father to jackson as well, no matter how much jackson hated it, he still had moments where he was grateful for ____ and the five other moral compasses in his life.
